At the young age of 15, Yuji Kunii began making sushi in his hometown, Tokyo, Japan. While many travel long distances to learn the art of sushi making in Japan, Mr. Kunii was immersed in training from an early age, and had used his passion to work closely with a master chef to learn about the true art of quality sushi creation and service. It was here where he also began to develop intricate knowledge of different types of fish and special preparation.
Mr. Kunii eventually came to Chicago, where he spent seven years working in a restaurant. More than 30 years ago he opened his own Kuni's Japanese Restaurant, and customers followed. In a place of growing popularity for sushi, many new sushi restaurants were headed by chefs of various Asian and Latin countries. Yuji remains one of a handful of true Japanese chefs in the Chicagoland area to offer a true, traditional and memorable sushi experience.
